The singer on glamour, researching vintage finds, and patent-leather shoes.

1. I love getting dressed up and shopping, but I don’t follow trends. My style fluctuates: it’s whimsical and feminine. When I was little, I was a really girly girl who didn’t like to wear trousers. I just wore party dresses all the time with patent-leather shoes.

2. At school the kids wore hippy dresses from thrift stores, and people made their own clothes. I’ve always enjoyed wearing old-fashioned clothes. I try to do a bit of research before I travel so I know where to uncover vintage finds.

3. Know what suits you. Now I understand proportion and recognise the shapes that look good on my figure. I try to stick to classic pieces. I don’t go to a lot of fashion shows or pay attention to what other people are wearing.

4. The red-carpet thing of premieres and parties is probably my least favourite part of my job. I do this because I love to act. All that other stuff may be glamorous, but glamour, by definition, is all just a circus.

5. You don’t have to wear expensive clothes to look good. Growing up in Hollywood meant there were a lot of film stars’ kids at my school – but no conspicuous wealth. It wasn’t cool to show off that you had money.

I have given into my inner Glee..I can’t get ‘Don’t stop believing’ out of my head, so much so i just downloaded a version off itunes. The show remind me of a cross between High school musical and just about any others stage school show ever been on tv.I really shouldn’t like the song but i can’t help myself – the music is like the entire album of the Spice Girls, poppy and one you can dance to.

I never watched the first eposide of the show and i hate watching it midway through a series so i shall wait till it get on either BTvision or i will end up buying the boxset.

My question is – has anyon else given into their inner Glee? Go on be honest!

Alexander McQueen’s reptilian-meets-sci-fi print mini dress has been the red carpet choice for 2 leading ladies of late. True Blood’s Anna Paquin went with the plunge-neck option at Saturday night’s Screen Actors Guild awards teamed with gold accessories and expertly coiffed tresses. While model, actress and academic Lily Cole broke out her more-modest McQueen at the Japanese Dr Parnassus premiere opting for the long-sleeved version of the mini.

Just days after Williams-Paisley wore her Alberto Makali gown to support her husband Brad Paisley when he cohosted the Country Music Awards in Nashville, Paisley’s cohost Underwood wore a version of the vibrantly printed gown to perform on Late Night with Conan O’Brien

This a little bit of a follow-on grace kelly post. thought it was intresting and reposted it on here.

Today London is busy working its style credentials hosting an auction selling artefacts and wardrobe belonging to elegant icon, Audrey Hepburn (see Related Content, right) and it looks like 2010 could be just as fashion fabulous with a new exhibition exploring the glamour of Grace Kelly. The Oscar-winning actress, known for her cool blonde roles in such classics as To Catch a Thief, Dial M for Murder and High Society, was, like Audrey, a vision of silver screen panache in the 1950s, before she married Prince Rainier of Monaco and retired from Hollywood. And this exhibition, to be held at the Victoria & Albert Museum from April next year, salutes the personal and professional career of Tinseltown’s true life princess.

Called “Grace Kelly: Style Icon”, the display will feature a number of amazing fashion items as modelled by Grace, both on duty in front of the cameras and as the dutiful wife, along with special mementoes, these broken day into three sections: “The Actress”, “The Bride” and “The Princess”.

Numbering over 50 outfits in total, the collection boasts such screen treasures as the black chiffon dress from Rear Window (pictured) and an evening dress and Grecian-style dressing gown as designed by MGM designer, Helen Rose. Also boasting a Hollywood connection is the gown she wore to the Oscars ceremony in 1955 when she won Best Actress for The Country Girl.

Other stunning wardrobe includes the belted shirtdress by Branell of New York which she wore when announcing the news of her engagement, the lace skirt and bodice that she wore to the actual civil marriage ceremony and other top designer treasures including the original Hermès “Kelly” bag (named after her), suits from Chanel, jewellery by Van Cleef and Arpels and 35 haute couture gowns from such names as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Balenciaga.

Much of the collection will be loaned from the Palace Princier in Monaco and has excited both the museum and Grace’s son, Albert II. “Throughout her life she exuded effortless elegance,” says the current ruler of Monaco, “whether she was appearing at the most spectacular public occasion, or a simply family gathering.”

While, Jenny Lister, a curator of fashion and textiles at the V&A adds: “Grace Kelly epitomised the ladylike glamour and sophistication of the 1950s. She epitomised ‘style’ as opposed to ‘fashion’, and her appeal has remained timeless, with women today still emulating her understated chic.”

Staring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley who basically – well one is a pr guru and another is a director or something for a fashion magazine. They hang out, get drunk, wear outrages clothes and say sweetie darling a lot and chain smoke. It the situation that they get themself into every week that made this show such a success and one of the reason why it have such devoted fan like me!

The show sex and the city first aired in 1998, adapted by a collection of short stories from the book of the same name written by Candice Bushnell’s who confessed the character Carrie Bradshaw is a kind of alter ego for herself. The premise of the sex and the city storyline is four single successful women who find Mr Right in Manhattan New York. Carries Bradshaw is a writer who write a sex column and throughout the series have an on-off relationship with Mr Big, Samantha Jones a PR executive and a complete sexual libertine, Miranda Hobbs a romantic cynic and lawyer while there Charlotte York an art gallery manager and a complete romantic optimist. The show would often addressed issue relating to Carrie column and would often asked questions such as “Can women have sex like a man?” and “Are threesomes the next sexual frontiers?” Subject of all area would often be the themes of an individual episodes ranging the six seasons such as anal sex, vibrators abortion and sexual transmitted diseases.

“Never in an America film or TV series has sophisticated girl talk been more explicit, with every kink and sexual twitch of the urban mating game noted and wittily dissected” (Holden 1999: E2).

Fashion throughout the show was an important factor as well, Carrie believing in the big 2 L in life: ‘Love’ and ‘Label’. Designers label was often at the forefront of the show turning unknown designers into the mainstream. Designers such as Patricia Field who runs a Greenwich boutique was brought into the show fashion direction and was an instant success as she was able to bring in a quirky sense of style.

The debut of show Sex and the City 1998 was very much a reactionary. Books like Bridget Jones Diary and other show like Ally Mcbeal was all about thirty something Singletons. When Sex and the city came alone it responded both socially and politically about these single women’s. In 2000 43 millions of American women were single.

Kristin Davis is quoted saying: (Sohn 2002: 44)

The show is really about a cultural movement…our generation and those since have grown up with choices. We didn’t have to be married by a certain age; we could be career women if we wanted to be… [The] show is about those choices and being able to create your life in the way that you want to create it.

The audience responded was a positive one, finally a show generated on real-life response. It was a theme the audience could respond to and act within in it. The transfer of the confessional course such as women’s magazine enables to address an important audience sector not been reached before. For the show millions of women’s viewers’ sex and the city became a part of cultural fabric of everyday life. Not just by watching the show but by engage in by the magazine, the clothes they wear and even meeting friends.

Much like the post war magazine, the show was a socially new direction for women; it gave more freedom, more freedom then pervious generation. While past generation of women the opening of subject such as sex would seem taboo now the new generation of women the subject of sex is very much a free subject and often now the subject of magazines and show like sex and the city. Even the traditional magazine such as Good housekeeping now carried a sex advice page which is often the case with much of modern magazine. While some feminist would argued that decent moral in society have gone down. The subject of sex and other issue is now freely available with the invention of the internet and TV show. We all now lived in a free society for women’s to act as they pleased.
