OK I’m feeling pretty stressed out at the moment, going through a bad patch at work. I just need to sort myself out for a while. But keep checking back.

I just stumbled across this picture and this is how i want my hair, a full on fringe/bang and completely striaght. Not a tangled of mess where my one side of my fringe is longer than the other and static mess. This look is elegant and exactly how i want my hair!!

4-5 years ago i was unemployed, i made myself unemployed – i was forced out of a job i was working, i won’t say where i was working as i don’t want to get into trouble. I was having problem with the managers and because my partner works there as well, it became an unhealthy environment. I didn’t have a job to fall back on but i couldn’t keep working there, i was very unhappy.

My parents and partner wasn’t exactly supported it but i was determined and stubborn and they eventually gave in, i was still living at home with my parents. I wanted an entire new direction and i knew i wanted to work in fashion, even if it was admin. I signed up on the job seeking benefits and had to go to the job center every week to report my status.

My routine would be wake up early log into vary job hunting website such as monsters and any other job seeking website, then read the paper scanning for any job. If i saw one i would applied immediately  and would wait. In the mean time i did an evening class doing a City & Guild qualification in MS applications to bulk up my skills.

When you received a letter saying ‘wish to meet up for an interview’ – your heart beat and you get a sense of woohoo to put it bluntly. The moment you received the ‘thanks but no thanks’ rejection letter it when your heart start to sink.

I was unemployed for a year and during that time i was rejected for over hundreds of jobs – it heart wreaking and soul destroying.  I always consider myself to be properly qualified to take on a simple admin job, i always works hard in school and made sure i passed all my grade.

To finish my side of the story, i eventually took up a job for my local Waitrose and i ended up liking it but felt in side of me there was so much more within me i need to prove to people. That why i took myself off to university – i wanted to expand my horizon and to get a better job so i can have a better life prospect.

This issue of being unemployed and being rejected for job is a serious issue in which the government seriously need to take notice off. Now we have a con-lib government will they take notice and address this issue? Only time will tell, but in the mean time we are tell our children that uni is the path to take – while on the other end of the spectrum graduate are focus into a job market where it bleak.  Unemployment is at higher at the height of the recession and many of then was young graduate. This is a prospect that i will also faced in 2-3 years time, i have no idea is the market will be in a better shape than it in now.

I feel for the young girl and understand how she must have been feeling.  The job market does need a re-vamp so this incident can never be repeated. One person alone cannot act – everyone need to act and get the government to take full responsibility and to act now.

To sit here sometimes and to write an intresting blog is a challenge, as i often sit in front my Blogger editor for 5 minutes and i just dunno how to Start a blog!.
How is one suppose to know how to start a blog – it’s the same way every writer ponders.
Journalist ponder on how to start an article while novel writer ponder on how to start a story.
I and i’m sure many other ‘bloggers’ sure have this problem, too. Do you write just a simple ‘hello’ or do you get right in and dig in whatever your blog will be about?
But once you start your blog and you know how to overcome the hard task (can you really call it a hard task?) on starting a blog – now the next part, What is your blog going to be about…
This is another challenge as well, as if you don’t have anything to say then what’s the point in writing a blog? Now I know a lot of people (or maybe not) that like nothing better than an intresting blog.
It dosen’t have to be indepth, it don’t have to be a looong arse blog that takes about half an hour to read- But as long as it’s intresting it surely will keep your reader intrested.
But how can the writer make the blog interesting? One subject that intrests you might not interest someone else, so how do you keep everyone happy? When reading a blog would you be interested in that person life or whatever subject the writer has chosen.
The subject is another matter to wonder – what do you want to write about. The subjects are endless… they might have chosen to write about their day or even their life story, their idol or a movie they just seen at the cinema. It not written in black pixels on what exactly to write in a blog (unless you joined one of those blogger ring or something), their never been a law that state on what to write in your blog. So really writing a blog is really a whole big area that never been written down – it a whole new genre that has opened up from the internet.
Is this the way it going to be from now on? Instead of old fashion diary and notebook – We all be having blog in the future. and is that such a bad thing? Would it be an accurate for some future generation or some green alien to read about this world?
Now you’ve got your starter, main course and all you need is to end this blog.
Do you just write a simple ‘bye bye love you xxx’ or leave with a question wide open? Do you finish the point (subject) you were writing and bring it to a close? Do you write a witty humorous ending or just finish the sentance and go?…

Here a little something to brighten up your day and to put a smile on your face.

Anyway a good friend of mine who study at LCF, in fact she doing the same course i was doing a year ago. She want to know what are my thoughts on vintage fashion,  this is opening a whole can of worm for me as I’m a collector of all thing vintage and could happily writes for hours on vintage, but for now I’m just going to answers her questions:

What decade do you class as vintage?

Hmmm interesting, i say mid 19th century (in the Victorian period) to 20th century 90s. I know it a huge leap but i love period drama and reading books that was printed before the 20th century, such as books from Jane Austin and Jane Eyre is one title that i love.  I class those era as every decade has it own unique styles, for example the 1900 has the Belle Epoque/ Edwardian period where you have the s-bend Silhouette. The 1920s was the era of flapper and Chanel fashion – right up to the 1950s where you have Christian Dior ‘new look’ and how the 60s was all about swinging sixties and youth culture. Post the 1990s and that where fashion style go down hill and you notice how everything is a copy-cat. This is more evidence when in the 2000s there was no original style and every season collection was a difference take on a past decades of fashion, it been there there, done that and being torn to pieces.  From 1900 to 2000 was a huge major shift in society and you an see that within fashion.

What is your favourite era?

I love the glamour and glitz of the 1920s era with the flapper dress and the Chanel suit ( it remind me of the jazz era) and the freedom woman have. I’m a huge 60s girl! I suppose because i seen pictures of my parents getting married in the 1960s and i love my mum wedding dress. What can i say 60s that hasn’t already been said! I love the mini skirt, twiggy, hippie culture and the new popular culture that was emerging. Just watch film such as the boats that rocked and you will know exactly what i mean!!

Do you have any shopping tips when it comes to shopping for vintage fashion?

Yes my top 5 tips:

1) Be weary of buying anything online as often the material, the sizing is often out. I brought stuff and the stitching is undone and is falling apart.  Make sure you are buying for a well-know vintage buyer who has a good reputation.

2) Don’t listen to the shop-owner and make up your own mind ( remember they want your money).

3) Try on in store/shop (often place has a small changing room, if not ask if you can go in the back room) as often once you get home and try and fit it on you and it will start tearing or will not fit you. Most vintage place they won’t give you a full refund.

4) investigate your garment, ask about it history and stories. Look at the stitching, will it fall apart easily? Ask how old is it? The older it is – the worse the stitiching can be.

5) Haggle the price, sometime you will get the sale of the century and often you won’t. But in my case people are willing to haggle you the price, just don’t be disappointed if you only get a fiver off and don’t angry the sale-owner as they can refuse to sell it to you.

Where are you favourite places to shop?

Topshop & New look are two name that spring to mind! Topshop flag street shop has a vintage department and it to die for!! A lot of unknown designers and collection, all really unique and one of a kind. Once it gone – it gone for good.

The new look flag street in Oxford street sell a collection of vintage clothes, these collection i discovered are from boutique you will find on Portobello road but in this case you have the security of getting a refund if it doesn’t fit you.

Ebay and Etsy. Etsy.com is an American site, similar layout to eBay but everything is handmade (or near enough) and it a brilliant place to find that 1950s dress you been searching for. The big problem is the pricing ( as it all in US dollar) and oversea delivering, but i been in contact and there a uk base site to be launched soon.

Ebay for obvious reason, just be careful and alway double check.

Modcloth.com – this is a fun clothes shop for vintage lover, an amercian site again but willing to do oversea delivering. If you just want to have fun then check it out.

Now the biggie: Portobello road/market – It in the weekend when you get the clothes stall more on the main market. But during the week (go on friday and you get a discount) down by portobello green (near ladbroke grove tube station) is the vintage market.  Last time i was there i picked up a 1960-70s dress for £25 and i was dead chuffed!! I advise anyone to go down and have a look.

Ok i think i said everything now. I’m off now..

I also been working on a little side-line project which will all be reveled very shortly. I also want to do something with this blog, I’m waiting for my last student loans to come through which will be at the end of this week. So i can buy myself a new computer and the student version of Adobe Creative Suite. My original plans was to work my arse off so i can afford to buy all  this but work hasn’t exactly been very helpful (in the sense i can’t get any extra hours), so instead I’m going to use my student loan. i want to buy this before the summer and before my year finished so i can start working from home and work for myself. I’m falling in love with desktop publishing!

Ahhhh the lack of money at the moment is driving me crazy!! I would rather not use my student loan to buy and instead use to live on but i do actually need it!! For not only uni stuff but once i leave professionalism as well. I’m applying for interns and work-experience right now, most of what of what I’m applying for say they pay for travel expenses which is always a good thing as travelling in expensive!

I also been e-mailing pr company asking for a interviews with so and so, i’m still waiting for reply but i got a deadline in two week time and i still hasn’t heard from anyone.

Grrrr….

On the plus side i been mastering on how to bake cupcakes which i will revel soon.
